IPSE is excited to announce their first keynote speaker for National Freelancers Day 2019 as award-winning comedian, TV writer and Sunday Times best-selling author Adam Kay. Adam entered the world of freelancing as a writer and comedian after taking the decision to end his career as an obstetrician and gynecologist.
This is Going to Hurt, his “hilarious and heartbreaking” (Charlie Brooker) and “blisteringly funny” (Jo Brand) memoirs from his former career was published in 2017. It received across-the-board critical acclaim, entered the Sunday Times best-seller list at no.3, won the Non-fiction Book of the Year & Readers Choice Award at the BAMB Readers Awards, and is one of Blackwell's debut books of the year.
His live comedy show based on the book was a sell-out at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in both 2016 and 2017, and then again at the Soho Theatre for a month-long, twice-extended run.
He also writes extensively for TV and film, with credits including Mitchell & Webb, Very British Problems, Mrs Brown’s Boys, Crims and Mongrels.
Adam will close National Freelancers Day with a passionate and hilarious account of his journey from a full-time medical professional to diverse freelancer.
If you haven’t had a chance to read Adam’s book, we will have copies available to purchase at the event.
