5 reasons why you should attend National Freelancers Day this year.

April 2, 2019

Are you thinking of attending National Freelancer’s Day? Here are 5 of the many reasons why you should get your hands on tickets and make sure to invite your friends along.

Reason no. 1: Sensational Keynote Speakers.

As always, IPSE has invited an exceptional variety of speakers to share their insights into the current independent working environment. This year Pip Jamieson and Adam Kay will give you their keynote presentations.

The Dots founder, Pip Jamieson, created a ground-breaking network that helps connect creators, freelancers and entrepreneurs, dubbed by Pip as the ‘No-Collar’ worker. Award-winning comedian and TV writer Adam Kay has entertained many with his best-selling book ‘This is Going to Hurt’ and will join us to share the highs and lows of his unusual freelance journey. In addition to our keynote speakers we are also still announcing new speakers to our impressive line-up of professionals, so check back for updates on them.

Reason no. 2: Our persistent aim to present topics relevant to the self-employed, one of these being Wellbeing.

We have 4 key streams to explore, and after extensive positive feedback, we have continued to expand the Health & Wellbeing branch to our topic divisions.

Freelancing is a, dare we say it, all-consuming lifestyle, so it is crucial to also plan time for your mental and physical health. Can you combine mindfulness practice with your everyday work life? Of course, you can!

Can practitioners pick up mindful strategies and learn from each other through sharing their experience in their diverse range of careers? Most certainly!

Freelancing should not be about working to live, it is about loving what you do for a living (clichés are overused for a reason after all).

Reason no. 3: Digital labs, to harness growth potential.

We have advice ready to help you promote yourself and your brand with the flair that only freelancers can bring. We’ve got workshops to help you brush up on your social media content creation, brought to you by marketing consultant, Luan Wise. Perhaps creative video and audio creator, Steve Folland, will inspire you to start a podcast on your journey as a self-employed professional, or to share your own unique tips and tricks.

Reason no. 4: Finances! The help we all need with grappling those money matters...

Now, please don’t give out a collective groan, keeping on top of financial affairs is crucial. We’re sure that you’ll find advice to ease you through any hiccups you may encounter. Or, better yet, learn ways to avoid them before they even happen.

The sessions cater to both those new and those old hands in the area. There will be help with seeking out funding to expand your business, as well as that difficult topic  - when to raise your rates (it’s sooner than you think). Our financial experts will be giving you plenty of new ideas on how to make your money go further. Head over to our finance section to plan which sessions you will be attending.

Reason no. 5: And of course, because at the core of it, NFD is a fun day to celebrate being freelance.

The Exhibitor Area gives that extra character to our day, with many industry experts all in one space. You may just capture a fresh LinkedIn headshot with The Headshot Guy or go home with a new brand identity after Emmeline Pidgen’s Live Illustration of you.

Last but not least, we think there is one other area of National Freelancers Day that deserves a bonus mention, the priceless takeaway, networking. This is something you bring to the show. You all have golden nuggets of knowledge to offer each other, and the collaboration opportunities that are borne out of professionals meeting each other at our events is what makes National Freelancers Day so exciting.

If that isn’t enough, IPSE Members attend free of charge, so if you have been considering joining IPSE there is no better time than in the lead up to this informative, event-packed day. Not to worry, you don’t need to be a member to immerse yourself in National Freelancers Day, we still have tickets and, new to 2019, Premium Tickets available.

Whether you have recently transitioned into self-employment or are a veteran freelancer you will find many ideas and titbits to pick up throughout the day. Don’t just take our word on it, read Illustration student, Madeleine Stuart’s reflections on her visit last year.

Get to know IPSE and apply for the Freelancer Awards, or if you know someone who should win, nominate them by forwarding them the awards pages and, most importantly, highlight why they are sure to win. They have until this Friday, 5th April to send their applications in.

We are excited to have you at National Freelancers Day, Thursday 20th June at Kings Place London.
